Cloud 1, artificial intelligence 0: this is how to win the security game
Trust in Cloud Computing is increasing and on the other hand that in artificial intelligence is decreasing. This is what emerges from the
Ciso Benchmark 2019
, a study based on a sample of 3200 security managers spread across 18 countries. The role of the CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) is a fundamental one that has the task of defining cyber risks and implementing the countermeasures necessary to prevent attacks and protect data and corporate infrastructure.
The report shows that 51% of companies have managed to lower the costs related to cyber breaches below half a million dollars, with an improvement of four points on the previous year. According to Cisco’s analysis, an increasingly central issue will be that of cyber-fatigue, i.e. the stress deriving from being constantly hammered by security alerts, which has been reduced from 46 percent to 30 percent in the last year.
The problem, however, is that the number or severity of threats has not decreased. In fact, if previously attacks were more complex and expensive, today cybercriminals use apparently more harmless methods such as emails to infiltrate company systems. And companies, in recent years, have been trying to run for cover by resorting to operational tests in which employees are the target of fake attacks in order to observe their behavior. Only in this way can it be possible to better direct the internal training work, which is now essential to protect and strengthen the IT ecosystem.
Stefano Vaninetti, Security Leader of Cisco Italy, said that “the war is far from over”. “Now more than ever, CISOs have taken a much more proactive role in reducing their exposure through consolidation and training, as well as investments in key technologies for cyber defense and breach containment,” Vaninetti said.
A surprising fact is the growing skepticism towards the most advanced tools, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, which for almost one in three respondents are not mature enough. There is more confidence in the security provided by Cloud Computing. Suffice it to say that
93% of CISOs surveyed said that migrating to the cloud has led to an increase in the efficiency of their teams
.
The feeling of difficulty in securing cloud infrastructure decreased by 52% in 2019 compared to 55% in 2017.
